Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)

Having problems with the postcards? Can't hear the music? Can't view the picture?

These are just a few of the questions and answers found here. If it isn't answered

here, I apologize, but this is the ONLY technical support I am able to provide for

the postcards.

FOR PROBLEMS HEARING MUSIC:

Make sure that your system is set-up to hear midi files (sound card) and the speakers are hooked up and turned on.

If you are still having problems, I recommend downloading and installing Crescendo's FREE midi player at http://www.liveupdate.com/dl.html. They have versions for Mac and Windows.

(Also see the 'Special Plugins' question below)

THERE ARE NO IMAGES ON MY CARD

This sometimes happens when the person who sent you the card forgot to click the button signifying which card (or image) to send you. Our suggestion is to kindly ask the sender to resend the card and make sure they click the button.

If the card is animated, and you are not able to view the Java animation, it may be because of the following reasons:

  1.
Your browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) has the Java option turned off. You must enable Java in the 'Options' or 'Preferences' menu.
  2.
Your browser may be an older, incompatible version that will not display Java.
I recommend that you visit the home page of your browser, and download the latest version. This should take care of any problems with sound or Java. If you already have the browser on CD, you may wish to re-install it. Use the 'Custom' installation method, and make sure everything is checked for multi-media, Java, sound, etc.

Do I need any special plugins?

You don't need any plugins to view a card with pictures and texts only.

You must have sound card installed to hear the music attached. If you have a sound card, most probably you have the midi plugin with your browser installed by default.

To view cards with Java applets you must have the Java-enabled browser and Java support turned on.

If you are using Netscape's browser - refer to http://home.netscape.com/ for detailed

information about plugins and where to get them.

If you have Internet Explorer - most probably you have all plugins you may ever need

to send and receive cards installed by default.

HOW DO I PICK UP A CARD?

If you have received a card you will (or have) received an e-mail notification letting you know your card number and the address of where to pick it up. You can click on the direct link to your card that is in your email notification that appears like this:

http://all4love.net/postcards/purestarcard.cgi?040128147 and it will take you directly to your card, or you may go to the main page and enter the number in the pickup box and click on view.

If you're still having trouble finding the pick up page click here then enter your card number in the box and click the button. AOL users can use the link that is provided at the bottom of the notification letter. It's that easy!

FOR PROBLEMS RETRIEVING A CARD

Do not type URL's in capitol letters. Use copy and paste if at all possible. Alternatively you may click on the optional link that is sent to you in your notification, it will take you directly to your virtual postcard.

Type the number for your card exactly as it is shown in the e-mail notification that you received telling you that you have a postcard waiting for you. Please DOUBLE check this. Be certain that you are not including any spaces or # signs either before

or after the number since this will result in the "card not found" error message.

I got a message "no card found"? What's up?

Cards are stored for 1-2 weeks since the send date (depending on particular postcard

site). You can view cards for unlimited number of times during this period. Afterwards the card will be deleted.

I have sent a postcard without errors, but my recipient never got it. Why?

Reasons could be numerous, but most common ones so far are:

1. Recipient's mail server could be down. It happens with all from time to time.

2. Recipient uses e-mail account with storage limit and at the time you've sent a had

Mailbox full. It happens often on AOL, WebTV network as well as various free mail

services.

3. You had mistyped address. You had typed something that looked to you (and our

system) as valid address, but it wasn't. You may have misspelled his username or domain name. We see hundreds of bounced mails to @oal.com, @ol.com, @hotamil.com, @pordigy.com, @yhaoo.com and @msn.vom.

Can you cancel a postcard I had already sent?

No, we can't. Like in traditional postal service - once you sent a letter it cannot be turned back. Please think before sending anything (not only postcards), haste is not best the manner in communication-:)

Why it says my e-mail is invalid? I know this e-mail works!

Most probably you made a typo and did not notice it. Correct e-mail syntax looks like:

name@mailhost.dom No spaces, no commas. Multiple e-mails are not allowed.

Do not try to paste email addresses from Outlook or Messenger's contact lists! This

won't work: name@mailhost.dom (My Friend) and name@mailhost.dom <My Friend>

For AOL users: remember that e-mail addresses outside AOL look like

yourname25@aol.com and not just yourname25.

How fast my card will reach recipient?

All e-mail notices about card waiting or picked up are usually sent within an hour. At

holiday times it may take 2-3 hours. The time between the notice is sent from our servers and your recipient gets it in mailbox depends on his mail server and connectivity and most likely will take few minutes.

I want to save a card sent to me. How?

If you want to save the card that had been sent to you - choose menu item File (top left

corner of your browser), then Save As and save this file to your hard drive, naming it

as mycard.html or something alike. You'll be able to view this card always when you

are connected to the Net - images and music file will be loaded automatically.

I am trying to bookmark a card I received with no success. What I am doing

wrong?

You can't bookmark a card sent from our network. Even if you will be able to access it

from bookmark next day - it won't be available soon (we store cards for limited time only. Better save the card as instructed above.

Do I need any special software or hardware to use cards?

You don't need any special hardware. You can use virtual postcards with any computer

or other electronic device connected to the Internet and equipped with browser. You must have sound card installed to hear the music sent with postcards.

What about browsers' compatibility?

Every known browser would work with Personal Postcards. We have many visitors from WebTV network. One of the best postcard sites was built by the owner of Amiga. There are no known issues with Macs.

We regularly see in our logs even Lynx users (though postcards would hardly look too

attractive with text browsers). We had already detected cards sent with cellular phones

connected to Internet.
