Other Side Of The Black Hills CD

"OTHER SIDE OF THE BLACK HILLS"

The inspiration for this collection came from the sights, sounds & legends around the Black Hills.

Recorded on a Deadwood, S.D., turn of the century Upright Grand, David captured the feeling of 1890 Deadwood, with his original translation of Jazz, Rag time, Honkey Tonk, Boogie Woogie, and Road House Blues.

1. The Stockade As I played the piano at the Stockade on Historic Main in Deadwood, SD I heard a gunfight outside and hid behind the piano's solid cast iron back for protection
2. Aunt Sophie's Upright I built a metal tab system for the piano you're listening to for that 1890 Deadwood sound. Just pull the lever down.
3. 1890 Chokecherry Jig I recommend the Chokecherry wine from the Black Hills Winery in Spearfish or from the Prairie Berry Winery in Hill City.
4. Main Street Rag You'll enjoy "Cool Deadwood Nights" in the Summertime on Historic Main.
5. Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda I shoulda done things a little bit different, I coulda, if only I woulda.
6. High Tailin Boogie This Horse'll get you there on time.
7. El Papaguyo That's Spanish for "The Parrot". Picture a beautiful bird flying through the jungle or one of my favorite Mexican Food Restaurants.
8. Wagons Ho! Visit the "high Plains Western Heritage Center" In Spearfish, SD to see the old covered wagons and imagine what it was like to set out on the journey first thing in the morning. "Wagons Ho!"
9. Toast The Tempo of this song wasn't quite right until I played it to the timer on my toaster one morning, thus the name "Toast".
10. 1890 Moccasins There's Nothing like running through the forest in softsoul moccasins. They bring you closer to the earth.
11. Ivory I like the feel of real ivory keys on old upright pianos but I'm sad that so many elephants had to die just for their tusks.
12. Ticklin The Ivories This is "Ivory" played in major instead of minor chords.
